Bucas Grande Foundation College History

Bucas Grande Foundation College (BGFC) is an ever-dreamed educational institution in the lone island, “Bucas Grande”. The progressive institution is situated in a hilly, serene and scenic mountainside of Brgy. Don Albino Taruc, Socorro, Surigao del Norte. It is the first and only tertiary school operating in the municipality that offers various courses which includes degree and technical-vocational studies.

The name of the school is honoured to the name of the island itself. It was established on June 2003 through the unified and untiring efforts of the incorporators headed by the brilliant and generous, Hon. Mamerto D. Galanida, Ed. D.

Its primary purpose is to provide a low-cost but quality education to the students whose Parents cannot afford to send their children to obtain tertiary education in the neighbouring colleges and universities. It carries huge responsibility to build-up its vision and mission completely to bring out its educational commitment.

Presently, there are four Government Recognition Permits issued by the Commission on Higher Education to BGFC’s programs such as GR R13=140102=01, series of 2008 for the Bachelor of Secondary Education, GR, R13=140101=01, series of 2008 for Bachelor of Elementary Education, GR R13=340108=01, series of 2008 for Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and GR R13=340101=02, series of 2013 for Bachelor of Business Administration.

With the implementing of K-12 program, BGFC has granted Permit No. SHS073, s.2015 by the Department of Education to offer Senior High School strands such as the General Academic strand (GAS), and Business Management (ABM) and TVL tracks such as Computer Hardware Servicing, Technical Drafting, Cookery, Housekeeping, Local Guiding services, Electrical Installation and Maintenance and Shielded Metal Arc Welding.

Moreover, the institution is accredited as training and assessment center by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for qualification such as Computer Hardware Servicing NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC II and Bookkeeping NC III.

During a decade of existence, the college has continuously produced quality graduates making the College one of top performers in the Licensure of Examination for Teachers within Caraga Region. Graduates of BGFC are now working in public and private institutions in the localities and in the neighbouring areas of Bucas Grande Island. With the current development Of BGFC, including its instructional facilities, the College will continue to uphold its commitment to excellence and produce quality graduates in response to global education.

Objectives

By 2020, BGFC shall:
o Increase enrollment by 50%;
o Have 60% full-time faculty members;
o Have at least 60% of the full-time and part-time faculty completed master’s degree in line with specialization;
o Offer basic education, senior high school, agriculture, fisheries, environmental science, tourism and graduate programs;
o Achieve at least level 1 accreditation of any program;
o Conduct and publish at least five relevant researchers based on the BGFC research agenda;
o Involve 100% of the faculty in research and research related activities;
o Strengthen research capability building of BGFC;
o Identify and develop at least three community extension programs;
o Develop computerized integrated system for enrolment, accounting, library and school formation management;
o Provide at least 18,000 entry level salary for full-time faculty;
o Acquisition of relevant instructional facilities (financial viability, scholarship, faculty and staff development program, linkages and alliances)
o At least 50% passing rate in the board course program
